Braithwaite House Rooms

Braithwaite House Rooms is an historical building dating back to the 1600s, with 4 en-suite rooms to offer explorers a cosy rest stop in the heart of Braithwaite village. Themed in alignment with the minerals mined from the nearby mines in days gone by; we offer the Copper room, the Quartz room, the Cobalt room and the Gold room.

The location of Braithwaite House Rooms is ideal for cyclists, adventurers and walkers of wainwrights, being the gateway to the North Western fells, Whinlatter pass, and Newlands Valley. Uniquely, the building also offers The Village Shop, where visitors can collect groceries and gifts. In addition, you'll find within the building our Tea Room serving locally sourced delights, breakfast, sit in or take away packed lunches, and evening meals.

Keeping village life alive we also aim very soon to have our on site Heritage Room-with artefacts from the old local mines, and infographics surrounding the history of Braithwaite.

The Quartz Room

Themed around the mineral Quartz, which was mined in the locally across the Lake District; The Quartz Room offers a kingsized bed and a lounge area. The room also offers an en-suite shower room, tea/coffee making facilities and a mini fridge. Featuring a stone wall, high ceilings and village views, this room encapsulates 'old Braithwaite' and would make a cosy lake district stay.

The Cobalt Room

Cobalt was mined at Scar Crags Mine, the only Cobalt mine in the area, between 1822 and 1850; The Cobalt Room offers a kingsized bed, lounge area with a TV, a basic kitchen area separate to the bedroom, overlooking 'Duck Street' Braithwaite, and an en-suite shower room. The Cobalt room bedroom is the converted loft room; with characteristic low ceilings, a cosy nest to retreat to during your stay in Braithwaite.

The Copper Room

In the 1700’s Copper was mined from the local Goldscope and Dalehead Mines, situated below Catbells. Themed on this mineral; The Copper Room offers a kingsized bed and tea/coffee making facilities with local tea and coffee, a mini fridge, desk dresser and en-suite shower room; ideal for a single lodger or a couple, with a coppery glow for a relaxing rest after a day of exploring Braithwaite and the area.

The Gold Room

Microscopic quantities of Gold were mined at the Goldscope Mine beneath Catbells from the 12th century up until 1923. The Gold Room is located on the top floor of the building and has a romantic feel with its kingsize bed, ensuite shower room, tea and coffee making facilities, and stunning views of Skiddaw, Barrow, and Braithwaite Howe.
